How to make $140 in 30 minutes

Step 1: Slightly overpay on your federal income taxes over the course of a year (say 2008).

Step 2: Forget to file your income tax return for that year.

Step 3: Find said tax return, as yet unfiled, when going through your files for the next year’s taxes.

Step 4: Spend twenty minutes on hold with the IRS, and then talk to a very lovely woman who explains what you need to do next.

Step 5: Mail the tax return, almost a year late, and wait patiently for your return check.

On the downside, I feel like an idiot. Normally I’m much more on top of my shit than this. I blame the fact that I was getting married right around tax time last year. Yeah, I’m sure that’s it. I’m really glad they owed me (in which case there’s no penalty for sending the forms late) as opposed to the other.

On the upside, in a few weeks, I’ll have $140. 😀
